Loyal to tradition
In the 3rd tour of the championship on April 21 ‘’Ararat’’ visited ‘’Spartak’’. That day the football season was officially opened. The match promised to be an interesting one, so lots of spectators prefered to be present at the ‘’Luzhniki’’ stadium in stead of watching the match between ‘’CSKA’’ and ‘’Pakhtakor’’. It was not also by chance, that the match ‘’Spartak’’-‘’Ararat’’was broadcasted live by central television, giving an opportunity to ‘’Ararat’’ fans watch the actions of their beloved team. The enormous interest toward this match was also related with the fact that the head coach of ‘’Ararat’’ Nikita Simonyan had given the best 22 years of his life to ‘’Spartak”. Everybody was interested how will play Simonyan’s new team against ‘’Spartak’’ who had started the season too bad. So ‘’Spartak’’ had been entering the pitch with the will only to win. There was another circumstance: in previous two seasons ‘’Ararat’’ didn’t lose in Moscow not officially being crowned the champion of the capital. In 9 matches with 5 Moscowite teams ‘’Ararat’’ had won 7 times and 2 matches ended in a draw. Going forward we’d like to notice that in the season of 73 ‘’Ararat’’ remained loyal to tradition, without losing a single game in 4 matches (2 victories and 2 draws). The series of victories with Moscowite teams started with ‘’Spartak’’. Both captains: Hovhannes Zanazanyan and Galimzyan Khusainov rose the flag. Both teams started the game in a high pace and maintained it up to the end. In the pitch were two tactically well-prepared teams, whose battle was a great pleasure to watch. It was ‘’Spartak’’ that opened the score. From Radin’s exact pass Lovchev with a rocket shot from 25 metres scored a beautiful goal. But ‘’Spartak’s’’ happiness didn’t last too long as 5 minutes later thanks to Khazaryan’s swift penetration and pass, Poghossyan who was brilliant that day, with an acrobatic jump headed the ball into Darvin’s net, equalizing the score. Before the break both teams had chances to take the upper hand in the score. Once Darvin with great difficulty neutralized Nazar Petrosyan’s strike, in the other case the woodwork saved ‘’Ararat’’ from Pishkaryov’s solid strike. After the break Bondarenko who substituted Ishtoyan strengthened the midfield, taking full control in the middle of the pitch. So thanks to Bondarenko’s pass Poghosyan scored ‘’Ararat’s’’ second goal. Being behind in the scoresheet ‘’Spartak’’ took decisive actions. From the free kick Silakadze made a pass to Pishkaryov who being unmarked equalized the score. Though in the last 15 minutes ‘’Ararat’’ had one player advantage (Kokorev was send off)the score remained the same 2:2. It was second time that ‘’Ararat’’ had to test the new regulation and fortunately they were lucky on penalty shoot out. Once Abrahamyan denied Radin’s penalty providing well deserved victory for his team. After this game ‘’Ararat’’ kept 3rd place in the championship table.
First defeat
In the 4th tour of the championship in Minsk ‘’Ararat’’ was defeated by local ‘’Dinamo’’ though they had more chances to win the match. The only goal of the game was scored in 48th minute. The author of the goal was Slovak who neted the ball from 25 metres. Before that Zanazanyan’s longe-range strike from the same spot was saved by Vergeyenko. In this match Ararat performed both tactically and physically strong game, but unfortunately didn’t take his real chances. Only Ishtoyan could score twice. Bondarenko was unlucky he hit the post and in injury time Khazaryan failed to score from promising situation.
