The Competition between the ancient rivals.
In the first tour of the championship "Ararat" played against its ancient rival "Dinamo" Tb. "at home". The matches between these two teams have always been extremely tense, and have brought great interest among fans independent of the positions these teams had in the fixture list. The following match brought much more interest, as "Ararat" was the undebatable leader. There was one more circumstance. In the first cycle,the match, which was played in Tbilisi, was won by "Dinamo" Tb. by 11 penalty shots. After that match "Ararat" again won 4 matched. This time "Ararat" was not stopped. "Ararat" won a victory which was the fifth continuous victory.
On July 22, "Hrazdan" stadium was flooded with fans. A lot fans from various regions of Armenia had come to be present at the match, as well as Armenians from Georgia.
Georgian players had chosen defensive tactics; they were playing with 5 defenders, who were individually controlling "Ararat"'s players. Khurtsilava was controlling Margarov, Dzordzuashvili - Khazaryan, Ebralidze - Andreasyan, Chelidze - Ishtoyan. So, the intention of the guests was obvious - full defense and sudden attacks by Goutsaev.
The first dangerous moment was created at the beginning of the match, when Khazaryan avoiding the defender appeared in front of the goalkeeper one on one. Gogia managed to save. Two minutes later there arose a similar situation, Gogia save again. In the first half Gogia's "castle" was always "under fire". Unsuccessful attempts to open the score were made by Khazaryan, Andreasyan, Zanazanyan. The guests' defense acted with great seriousness, in the result of which fatigues was felt in their actions at the end of the first half. Two dangerous moments were created by the guests before the break. Rekhriashvili didn't make use of the moment after Abrahamyan's unsuccessful save, and at the end of the half Abrahamyan saved Tsereteli's dangerous shot. Another dangerous moment was created by Georgian players right after the break. Kovalenko addressed the ball to Kanteladze, by mistake and the latter's kick was saved by Abrahamyan. The next attack by "Ararat" was successful and Margarov opened the score. That goal was the turning point and "Ararat" got rid of the "chains". The received goal made the Georgian players play more actively. From that on the fans saw "open" football where the Armenian players took the advantage. They prevailed over their rival technically, and they managed to turn it into a goal. Margarov passed the ball to Zanazanyan whose kick could not be saved. Two minutes later Ishtoyan scored again. And so, "Ararat" won with 3:0. After that match "Ararat" won 5 matches in a row. Five score difference from "Dinamo" K. and "Dinamo" M. was preserved. And ? final with the champion "Zarya" was still to come.
"Ararat" in ? final
The end of July and the beginning of August were too tense for "Ararat", that played with two fronts. 3 days later after the victory over "Dinamo" Tb. "Ararat" had to play its second ? final match in Voroshilovgrad. After the matches for the championship and the cup, fatigue was felt among the players. The team seemed to fail. "Ararat" couldn't help losing the matches in the championship, so all preferred failure in Voroshilovgrad. "Ararat" had won with 2:0 in Yerevan, so they could lose the match with 1:0. And these were only rumours, but turned into reality. Choosing defensive tactics "Ararat" lost the game (0:1) in Voroshilovgrad, but won an entry card to semifinal with aggregate result. Three minutes before the end of the match Pinchuk scored a goal. A little later Margarov addressed the ball to Ishtoyan, but the latter made a pass instead of kicking the ball. Nikita Simonyan's opinion about match is very interesting; it was published in "Football-hockey" newspaper, "Of course, the result of the first match left its impact on the actions of the team. We didn't want to take a risk and play openly. We expected to obstacle massive attacks in Voroshilovgrad and the defenders were told to be attentive. "Zarya" made much more impression on us in two previous matches in Yerevan, than in this one. The absence of Onishchenko was greatly felt and Yeliseev didn't obviously play his best match. I am not pleased with our forwards, who didn't make use of two real moments. I am pleased with the aggregate result and we will go on struggling in the next stage. I am worried about the schedule of our matches. We will have to play on July 29, August 1 and 4, and not "at home".
"Ararat's" victories were stopped
Nikita Simonyan was not pleased with the schedule of the matches. During 4 days "Ararat" had to play twice in Dnipropetrovsk with "Dnipr" first at championship match and then at cup semifinal. On July 29 "Ararat" started the match with great attention, as they knew that "Dnipr's" attacks would be massive. "Dnipr" played with 3 forwards but "Ararat's" defense acted without mistakes. And soon "Ararat" started to control the central part of the field and started to organize attacks more frequently. At 29th minute Margarov scored a goal due to a massive attack. But before the break Khristiani was fallen and Grinko realized 11 penalty shot. After the break "Ararat" was not active as in the first half, as they had to play another match for the cup. So "Dnipr" organized a few dangerous moments but Abrahamyan was brilliant. He was great also at 11 penalty shots, and saved Grinko's and Fedorenko's shots, but it was not enough to win, as Poghosyan, Margarov and Bondarenko didn't realize 1 penalty shots. So after 5 victories "Ararat" lost 2 scores. With an interesting coincidence "Dinamo" K. and "Dinamo" M. lost their matches by 11 penalty shots, and "Shakhtar" and CSKA accompanied those teams that wanted to reach "Ararat".
